COURSE DESCRIPTION 
The four (4) hour General Guard Training Segment is designed for all Security Guard/Officer classifications, Armed, Unarmed, and Proprietary. This segment examines the attitude and conduct expected of any individual seeking to work with the deterrence and prevention of crime along with the protection of private assets such as people and property.

LEARNING OBJECTIVE
The objective of this course is to train individuals to become licensed unarmed security officers in the State of Tennessee. This course is fully approved by the State of Tennessee Private Protective Services and satisfies all requirements to be licensed in the State of Tennessee as an unarmed security officer.

COURSE TOPICS
This course includes an examination covering subjects in which the individual must have training for licensure as an unarmed security officer in the State of Tennessee. In accordance with requirements under Tenn. Code Ann. § 62-35-118 all candidates must complete a four-hour basic course including one (1) hour each of: (A) Orientation (B) Legal powers and limitations of a security guard/officer (C) Emergency procedures (D) General duties.

COURSE GOALS
Comprehend the definition, roles, responsibilities, and authority of an unarmed security officer.
Comprehend the desired behaviors and conduct of security personnel in the workplace.
Comprehend the Tennessee Laws (state statutes) governing Private Protective Services that administers armed and unarmed security personnel.
Comprehend the purpose of Tennessee Private Protective Services Licensing and Regulatory Act and Administrative Rules - Rule 0780-05-02.
Comprehend the Tennessee Laws (state statutes) for criminal and civil laws and liabilities in reference to Title 39 (Criminal Offenses) & Title 40 (Criminal Procedure) and their importance to security personnel.
Comprehend basic first aid techniques, and related safety and legal considerations to administering first aid.
Comprehend the general evacuation and notification procedures used when responding to emergency situations.
Comprehend the basic principles of effective foot and vehicle patrols and how situational awareness and defensive driving aid the security officer in these duties.
Comprehend general security terminology and basic access control strategies used in the security industry for the protection of property, assets, or people.
Comprehend the primary elements of effective observation techniques, and the importance of note talking and report writing.

COURSE SCHEDULE
This course is available on demand. On-demand availability provides students the ability to complete the course on their schedule and at their pace. Students may start and stop at any time and as often as necessary to accommodate their schedule; students may start the course on one device and continue on another.

COURSE DURATION
The entire course, including progress quizzes, and the 50-question final exam, is designed to be completed in 4.5 - 5 hours.

COURSE COMPLETION
The mandatory completion/duration period for this course is 30 days from the registration date. After 30 days, access will be removed. Participants will have three attempts to pass the final examination.

COURSE ATTENDANCE
To meet attendance requirements, participants must entirely review each training module and complete all required course quizzes and the course final examination. Students must view each video without manipulation, fast-forwarding, or skipping forward. Students must successfully review each video module and complete the related progress quiz with a score < 70% in order to proceed to the next training module.

Course Instructor

Angel has more than 30 years of combined experience in military, corporate security and facility management operations. Angel started his career in the United States Army as an Infantryman. He served in the the Gulf War with the 101st Airborne Division in Desert Shield and Desert Storm and was awarded the Bronze Star. A member of the American Society of Industrial Security (ASIS), he holds the Certified Protection Professional (CPP) designation, recognized internationally as the top professional certification for security practitioners. Angel is also certified as a Facility Management Professional, Physical Security Professional, Certified Protection Officer, FEMA certified in Emergency Management, Red Cross CPR/First Aid/AED instructor, and a Tennessee licensed security officer trainer. Angel currently serves on the Private Protective Services Committee with the Department of Commerce and was the primary author of the (4) Hour General Training Curriculum.
